Long-wheelbase models are highly popular in China, and Tesla has finally joined the trend by launching the Model Y L. This is a six-seat crossover designed specifically for growing families.
Looking directly at the data, this electric crossover vehicle is 195.9 inches (4,976 mm) long, 83.8 inches (2,129 mm) wide, and 65.7 inches (1,668 mm) high. This means that the Model Y L is 7 inches (179 mm) longer and 1.7 inches (44 mm) taller than the standard version.
Despite its significantly larger body dimensions, the model remains instantly recognizable as a Model Y. However, the long-wheelbase version is distinguished by a redesigned roof structure, longer rear doors, and unique 19-inch wheels. Its rear spoiler is also more prominent.
In terms of interior design, the 15.4-inch infotainment system has been replaced by a larger 16-inch display. More notably, the second row is equipped with independent seats
The heated third-row seats appear somewhat narrow, but can be fully reclined with the push of a button. We can also see rear air conditioning vents and cup holders.
If cargo space is more important than passenger space, you will have 89.7 cubic feet (2,539 liters) of storage space. This is 14.2 cubic feet (401 liters) more than the standard Model Y.
Other notable features include a panoramic glass roof and sound-insulating glass to keep the interior quiet. They also come equipped with an 18-speaker sound system and an 8-inch rear display screen.
Tesla has revealed only a few details about the powertrain, but has confirmed that the Model Y L is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system and has a CLTC range of 467 miles (751 kilometers). The crossover can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in 4.5 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds slower than its smaller sibling.
Given its larger size, it’s no surprise that this crossover weighs 212 pounds (96 kilograms) more, coming in at 4,603 pounds (2,088 kilograms). To accommodate the added weight, the Model Y L is equipped with an “upgraded suspension system” that enables “smooth and precise vehicle control on corners and various terrains.”
The long-wheelbase version starts at ¥339,000 ($47,199), which is only ¥25,500 ($3,550) more than the all-wheel-drive Model Y. Automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and lane departure prevention systems are all standard, while two driving assistance packages offer more advanced options.
